What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. When you come back, the browser sends the file back, so the site can recognise your session and remember what you were doing.

We also use a few similar technologies that work in the same way:

• Local storage and session storage — browser storage used to keep small amounts of data such as interface preferences.
• Pixels and web beacons — tiny images that report whether an email or page has been opened. We use these only in marketing emails, and only if you have opted in.

Throughout this policy, “cookies” covers all of these.

Why we use them

We use cookies for four reasons, and no others:

1. To make the shop work. Without cookies, your basket empties on every page and you cannot stay signed in.
2. To keep the Site secure. Cookies help us tell a genuine customer from a bot and protect the checkout against abuse.
3. To remember your preferences. Things like your chosen currency or your wishlist.
4. To understand how the shop is used, in aggregate, so we can improve it.

Some content on the Site is loaded from other providers. When your browser fetches it, that provider can see your IP address and may set its own cookies under its own policy.

We do not control third-party cookies and cannot switch them off on your behalf. Use the browser controls in the next section, or the provider’s own opt-out, if you wish to block them.

Where a consent banner is shown, you can accept or reject non-essential categories when you first visit, and change your mind at any time by clearing the consent cookie and reloading the page. Strictly necessary cookies cannot be switched off, because the shop cannot function without them.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

There is still no agreed industry standard for responding to browser “Do Not Track” signals, so the Site does not change its behaviour in response to them. As we set no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, this makes no practical difference to your privacy here.

The legal position

Cookies are regulated in the United Kingdom by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR), read together with the UK GDPR.

• We may set strictly necessary cookies without consent, because they are essential to deliver a service you have asked for.
• For all other cookies we must obtain your consent before setting them, and that consent must be freely given, specific, informed and as easy to withdraw as to give.
• Where a cookie also involves processing personal data, that processing is described in our Privacy Policy.

Changes to this policy

We will update this policy whenever we add, remove or change the cookies we use. The “last updated” date at the top of the page shows when it last changed. If we introduce a new category of cookie that requires consent, we will ask for it before that cookie is set.
